Business Valuation Services in Brisbane, Arranged by Purpose

The reason you need a value decides most of what follows: which standard of value applies, how deep the report goes and who will test it. So the eleven services below are sorted by the job they do, not by the method behind them.

Indicative valuations from A$799. Certified Summary and Detailed reports from seven business days.

Brisbane Business Valuations provides eleven valuation services in three groups: sale, deals and planning; tax and compliance; and disputes and litigation. Each service page explains what triggers a valuation, which approach usually leads, where valuations go wrong and which report fits. An Indicative valuation is for internal decision-making; the Summary and Detailed reports are certified.

Three report depths built on the same analysis

The underlying work never changes: normalised accounts, the relevant approaches applied and a reconciled conclusion. What changes is how much of that work is written down, and that follows the reader. A Brisbane owner thinking about a sale or a family handover usually needs a range to act on. A lender, the Supreme Court of Queensland, the Queensland Revenue Office, the ATO or the other side of a dispute needs a certified opinion whose reasoning can be followed and challenged.

How an engagement runs

Each service runs through the same six steps, whether the client is a Fortitude Valley hospitality group or an Eagle Farm freight operator. What differs between engagements is the information we request and how much of the analysis the report writes out.

1. Scoping call

A free conversation to identify the purpose, the interest being valued, who will read the report and what information exists. That conversation settles the standard of value and the report depth before any fee is agreed.

2. Information request

A written list of what we need: financial statements and tax returns, management accounts, the constitution or shareholders agreement, leases, key contracts and anything specific to the purpose. Delivery is measured from the day the last item arrives.

3. Analysis

Normalisation of the accounts, selection and application of the approaches, derivation of rates and multiples from named sources, discounts where the interest requires them, and reconciliation to a range.

4. Draft and review

A second certified valuer reviews the workfile and the draft before anything leaves the office. Every judgement has a written reason attached to it.

5. Closing conversation

The valuer walks you through the result and answers questions. Your accountant or lawyer is welcome to join; many clients say it is the most useful hour of the engagement.

6. Final report

Signed and delivered digitally, from seven business days after we receive the information. The valuer remains available to explain or defend the opinion afterwards.

Throughout, you will know who holds the file, how far it has progressed and when the next step falls due.

What these services do not cover

Two documents are often confused with ours. One is the statutory expert's report the Corporations Act requires for takeovers, schemes of arrangement and certain member approvals, governed by ASIC Regulatory Guides 111 and 112. Preparing it is a licensed financial service, and we do not issue them. We can prepare the valuation work a licensed expert relies on, and we give the boards of private companies independent opinions on transactions where no statutory report is needed.

The other is the quick estimate, from an online tool or a business broker. Our own business valuation calculator is free and educational, and it says so plainly. A broker's figure is pitched to win the listing. Neither is evidence anyone can rely on; when a number has to carry weight, a certified valuer signs it and defends it.

Where to read further

Each service page links to our Brisbane industry pages, which show how the approaches apply to medical and dental practices, professional firms, hospitality venues, trades and construction, technology and freight businesses, and to the three valuation approach pages that carry this site's explanations of method.

Choosing the right valuation service: your questions

Start from the event rather than the method. A sale or purchase, a family handover, a restructure or an equity issue sits under sale, deals and planning. A CGT concession claim, an SMSF audit, an estate administration or a set of financial statements sits under tax and compliance. A falling-out between shareholders, a separation or a claim for lost profits sits under disputes and litigation. When an event crosses two groups, such as a sale that relies on the small business CGT concessions, the scoping call decides which report covers both.
Sometimes, and it is worth raising before the report is written. A valuation prepared for a sale will normally also satisfy a lender looking at the same date. An employee share scheme needs two different figures, one for tax and one for the accounts, and a family law valuation is prepared on a basis no lender would use. Every report names its purpose and the parties entitled to rely on it, so adding a purpose later can mean a supplementary letter or a new report.
Yes. Our office is at Level 6, 123 Eagle Street in the CBD, and our clients are spread across Greater Brisbane, from Ipswich and Springfield to Logan, the Redlands and Moreton Bay. We also act for businesses in Toowoomba and elsewhere in Queensland, and the methods and standards we apply are national. Where the assets or the operation call for it we visit the site, such as a plant yard in Wacol or a warehouse in Pinkenba; for many professional and service firms the records and a video call are enough.
Usually three to five years of financial statements and tax returns, current management accounts, the company constitution or shareholders' agreement, leases and major contracts, plus anything the purpose requires, such as the SMSF trust deed or the pleadings in a dispute. After the scoping call we send an information request written for your engagement. The clock for a certified report, delivered from seven business days, starts when the last item reaches us.
Our reports follow APES 225 Valuation Services and, where litigation is involved, the expert evidence rules of the Federal Court and of the Queensland courts, including Chapter 11 Part 5 of the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules 1999 (Qld), which governs expert evidence in the Supreme Court and District Court of Queensland. Each report sets out the purpose, the standard of value, the methods, the sources and the reasoning so a reviewer can retrace every step. Acceptance is always the reader's decision, but this is the form the ATO, lenders and courts expect, and the valuer who signs it will explain and defend it.
Indicative valuations start from A$799 and are intended for internal decision-making, so they suit an owner who wants a well-reasoned range before committing to anything. Summary and Detailed reports are certified and are quoted after a free consultation, because the fee depends on the purpose, the number of entities, the state of the records and whether the opinion must withstand review by a court, the ATO or another expert. The fee is confirmed in the engagement letter before work starts, and every report is delivered from seven business days after we receive the information.
